Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Poetic Transformations featuring paintings by Lou Schellenberg and assemblage sculptures by Gene Shaw. Based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, colleagues Schellenberg and Shaw both share similar directions in their most recent work. Schellenberg pushes beyond representation in her oil on paper landscapes. She skillfully creates balanced ambiguity by simplifying architectural forms, flattening the motif and using high-key, non-local color. Shaw uses both his fine art and custom cabinetry skills to create three dimensional constructions made from recycled, salvaged parts he finds in antique and junk shops as far away as Maine. These wooden and metal components are cut, reassembled, and joined into exquisite designs which push into space. Exhibited together, their work explores the interplay between geometry and bold colors creating tension, harmony and a sense of joyful play.
